Support for American families

Familyvaluesandmorals.com is against Same-Sex marriage!

It mirrors the moral decline in America and we must do everything we can to uphold the sanctity of marriage.

Massachusetts Furthers Rights for Same-Sex Couples

The most recent blow came on July 31st when Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick signed a bill into law that similarly allows non-resident same-sex couples to marry in Massachusetts just as in California.

With homosexuals using the courts to push same-sex marriage, and with one of the presidential candidates advocating the repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act, citizens can reasonably worry that same-sex couples will visit California or Massachusetts for a wedding and then try to force their home states to accept the marriage.

Battle on the Ballot

California, Arizona and Florida all have won the right to vote on marriage amendments this November. However, the fight will not be an easy one.

The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) will be integral in helping anti-family groups to defeat all three amendments. But, will focus most of its energy on California's Proposition 8. The group's communications coordinator, Rachel Balick, is quoted as saying the defeat of California's Proposition 8 is a top priority for them. "If we can just work nonstop and devote resources and time, this is such a great opportunity. So many times as California goes, so goes the nation," she said.

Funding Will Be Key

For pro-family supporters of the amendment, this means large sums of money will most certainly be directed to defeat the proposition, in California and the other two states.

HRC will also support efforts to defeat the Florida and Arizona amendments. Marty Rouse, national field director for HRC, wrote, "Last year, HRC helped provide seed money to the effort to defeat the marriage amendment in Florida...HRC is considering how to best support the fight for equality there (Arizona),"

Besides HRC, opposition to the three marriage amendments will come from Equality for All in California, Equality Arizona, and Equality Florida. Florida's Fairness for All Families, which includes Florida Red and Blue, and the Florida AFL-CIO, is the other main group working to defeat Amendment 2.

Other Battles Loom

Arizona's Proposition 102 was the only of the three referred to the ballot by the state legislature. The battle to pass it was won in June.

However, HRC and Equality Arizona will be working hard to defeat the measure as well as changing the make-up of the legislature.

According to HRC's Balick, "We're now working with local leadership to determine what the next steps should be HRC is also targeting Arizona to get more fair-minded legislators elected. It was the legislators who voted to put the measure on the ballot."

Other setbacks for the family include two recent California rulings from Jerry Brown the Attorney General. Brown is quoted from the San Francisco Chronicle as saying, "I believe that marriages that have been entered into subsequent to the (May 15) Supreme Court opinion will be recognized by the California Supreme Court," Additionally, he changed the ballot title to reflect a biased description of the amendment saying that it "eliminates the right of same-sex couples to marry."  Support and opposition both agree that this will make passing the amendment more difficult.

The opposition is gathering its troops for the battle against the family. It appears they will not only outspend us, they will have the sympathy of the media and many of the public.
